Mr. Trash: The Baltimore water wheel

Mr. Trash is a water wheel that uses the water and solar power to collect trash from the harbor. All of the trash is lifted onto a conveyer belt and then later disposed into a dumpster.

Precious plastic is another innovative company that found a way to make machines that can recycle plastic that would otherwise end up the a generic recycling bin or trash can. These machines allow many plastic products transform into new, more useful tools. Precious Plastic's website allows anyone to use basic materials to build these systems at home. 

Plastic Eating Bacteria 

Japanese scientists discovered a bacteria that can eat and break down PET plastics. PET plastics are used for such a variety of purposes but they're extremely damaging because they are very resistant to breaking down. This discovery of this bacteria is very exciting for scientists but it is unclear how helpful it will be in eliminating plastic pollution, and what role it could potentially play.
